Discerning
on Your Feet: Navigating Life's Moral Complexity
We
are commanded
to love God with our whole heart, mind, soul and strength, and to
love our neighbor as ourselves. But how are we to live this command
in everyday life, especially when others do not share our values?
How do we translate this command into the world of business? Can
we, for example, fire someone lovingly?
Most
of our decisions are made "on the fly." When we have a
decision to make, what are the questions we should ask? How do we
prioritize our thinking? How can we be sure to do what is best for
ourselves and for others? And how can we discern quickly?
Our Catholic
tradition offers us real, practical assistance to think and act
with Christ in our everyday lives. In this workshop we invite participants
to come with a real problem for solution. Then we will ask the questions
which our tradition poses in order to clarify our problems. Each
participant will apply the moral teaching to his or her own situation.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be urged to bring
their own situations to judgment.
