The Siena Scribe has a new editor

Anthony Schefter, former editor of the Siena Scribe, spent his first Holy Week and Easter at the Benedictine monastery of Mt. Angel in Oregon where he has begun his postulancy. Sharon Fox has volunteered to take his place as editor. Sharon has been the editor of GLEANINGS, the newsletter for Western Washington Catholic Charismatic Renewal, for over ten years and is currently a part-time student at Shoreline Community College in the Graphic Design program.

New Zealand and Australia

Sherry Weddell’s trip to New Zealand and Australia has been extended to include two gifts discernment workshops. Sherry went down under on April 13 and returns May 6, 1999.

El Inventario en Español

The Spanish language version of the Catholic Spiritual Gifts Inventory is almost ready for printing. The final revision of the translation is now underway, after which it must be formatted, proof-read, and printed. We hope to have it available by the end of spring.

In Search of Grant Funding

The demand for the Called & Gifted workshop in parishes has quickly outstripped our ability to meet it with live workshops. In light of this, we have applied for a major grant that will enable us to produce a television-quality video version of the Called & Gifted Workshop for use by parishes. The Catholic foundation to which we have applied has shown a considerable amount of interest in our work and has told us that they were impressed by its unusual depth. The final decision about our grant will be made at the end of July. We would appreciate your prayers for this project, which is critical to making the vision of the lay apostolate and charisms available to parishes throughout North America.

As part of our effort to make this vision widely accessible, Fr. Michael and Sherry Weddell will be working on "the Called & Gifted book" this summer. This book will cover the theology and pastoral practice of forming lay apostles and helping them discern their charisms in greater depth than is possible in a weekend workshop. With the assistance of Eryn Huntington, we hope to have the book available by the Fall of 2000.

Did you know...

that the Church teaches that the final end of human beings is perfect happiness? That it is a virtue to seek to achieve great things? That our problem is not that we desire too much, but too often settle for too little?>

If this is news to you…

be sure and get a copy of Fr. Michael & Sherry Weddell’s Lenten retreat on The Christian Call to Happiness, which was recorded at St. Mary Magdalene parish in Everett, Washington this past February. The retreat will be available on audio tape this summer. Included with the tapes will be participant’s notes and personal exercises.
